Following my exhibition Deaf in One Eye, I'm incredibly pleased to announce that the Art Gallery of South Australia has acquired this piece for its permanent collection.

This one means a great deal to me personally. Growing up, I regularly visited AGSA looking for inspiration and a sense of belonging in the art I found there. It was one of the places that helped form my understanding of what art could be, and where I encountered many of the artists I came to admire. To now have my own work enter that same collection, alongside so many of the artists who influenced me, is the fulfilment of a lifelong ambition.

It also feels like a particularly fitting conclusion to Deaf in One Eye. The exhibition examines how artistic and cultural value is assigned: how context, authorship, craftsmanship, history and collective belief influence what we choose to value, preserve and ultimately place within the artistic canon.

For a work from this exhibition to now enter the permanent collection of an institution that played such an important role in my own relationship with art brings that idea full circle in a way I could never have anticipated.

Presented by Hill Smith Art Advisory at ILA (Immersive Light and Art) as part of the 2026 SALA Festival, this — the most comprehensive exhibition I've made — functioned as a retrospective, bringing together paintings and sculptures alongside an immersive digital experience that brought new life to highlights from the past 20 years of my practice.
