The Witching Hour
2016, Oil on Italian Linen, 80 x 74cm
There is a line in McInernery’s Brightness Falls: “At the time of night when guests become disk jockeys, sifting through the library of records and tapes, the stereo becomes a time machine, stuck in reverse.”
So the technology might be a little dated now, but the content rings true. Until the night degenerates. After a certain hour, bravure rises and inhibitions lower. What happens next is perhaps best not remembered.
Better to immortalise it in a painting.
