Dualism denotes a state of two parts. The word’s origin is the Latin duo, ‘two.’ The term was originally coined to denote co-eternal binary opposition, and as such forms the basis for modern research in mathematics and science. While the meaning is preserved in metaphysical and philosophical duality discourse, it also forms a major part of philosophical studies and western and eastern religions. Thus the idea of opposing good & evil, yin & yang and nihilism & belief, is a manifestation of the eternal struggle of opposites that defines humanity.
